U/HILE a number of men were working on. a railway dupli- ” cation in the hills, a landslide occurred and a gang was entombed. The men were in a tunnel which was being demolished. One man, G. Wilkinson, of Unley, Adelaide, was killed end six others are trapped. It is known that at least four of these are still alive. One man was rescued, severely injured. The work of clearing away the debris was begun immediately, gangs working throughout the night by means of flares. Several hours must elapse before the men can be freed because 15 to 20 feet of earth must be removed in order to reach them. Slow work is necessary to prevent the possibility of again burying them. INTER-STATE LINE BLOCKED Arthur Xewcombe, of Balhannah, who in an earlier message was reported as killed, was rescued, but was injured. The landslide is attributed to a soapy joint in the clay. The earth fell upon the unprotected walls of the tunnel, the 'op of which had been taken off for more than half its ! e ngth.
