NEW REGENT

MONKEY SEASON EXTENDED So many have been unable to obtain admission to the New Regent Theatre during the week, and so heavy are the advance bookings that the management has made arrangements to extend the season in Auckland for another three days. The famous monkey movie stars, Maxo, Moritz and Akka, will positively make their last appearances on Saturday next. These amazing monkeys have proved an absolute sensation, breaking all previous records at the Regent. ~ Their performance is simply astounding in the demonstration of almost human intelligence and sagacity. Certainly nothing has ever been seen on the stage like it before. Not only is one astounded at the remarkable cleverness of the whole performance, but their natural antics keep the house in shrieks of laughter. Box plans for the three extra days are now open at the theatre. Paramount’s “Running Wild,” which is the chief pictorial attraction, is a good comedy for many reasons. First, Fields is funny. Anyone who has seen him will attest to that. Second, La Cava conceived the* original idea on which the film is founded. When a man is allowed to follow up something he himself originates, one can rest assured that nothing - will happen to spoil his “pet.” Third, Mary Brian, the" charming Wendy of “Peter Pan,” is featured.

Elmer Finch, played by W. C. Fields, the original timid soul and family doormat, is suddenly transformed into a fearless warrior by means of a stage magician’s hypnotic spel. He goes out into the world, and makes everything come his way, whether it wants to or not. Then,' Elmer is snapped out of the trance, and he realises what he has done. Finding a copuple of men chasing him, Elmer heads for the open spaces, never realising they are both offering handsome contracts for his services. And it is in these scenes that Fields is said to give overwhelming proof of his comic ability. Eddie Horton is making his last appearance in New Zealand prior to sailing on Friday for Sydney. On Friday there will be a complete change of picture programme, when Bebe Daniels in “Swim, Girls, Swim,” will be the main feature.
