ROYAL, KINGSLAND
BIG HOLIDAY PROGRAMME
One of the most interesting and absorbing films of the year is promised in “Alias the Deacon.” the UniversalJewel production which will be shown at the Theatre Royal. Kingsland. to-night. The picture boasts an unusually large cast, with Jean Hersholt, one of the screen’s foremost character stars, enacting the featured role, and Ralph Graves, June Marlowe, Myrtle Stedman. Tom Kennedy, Ned Sparks, Lincoln Plummer and others in the cast. Edward Sloman directed the picture from an adaptation of the stage play by John B. Hymer. “The Romance of Hinemoa” will also be shown to-night. The cast is purely Maori, and they act as if they had been before the camera all their lives. Their work is dignified and free of selfconsciousness. The story is most engrossing, and shows that love and passion are as old as the world. Mention must be made of the very beautiful coloured scenic effects obtained by the director, Mr. Pauli.
