THEFT AT TAURANGA

TRAVELLER’S GOODS STOLEN GARAGE ENTERED TAURANGA, To-day. A burglary was committed in Tauranga on Friday night. Mr. C. F. Washer’s garage was broken into and over £IOO worth of material was taken. The principal articles belonged to a commercial traveller who had parked his car in the garage. The thieves obtained admission by a window in the back part of the premises. Following information received from the Tauranga police and subsequent inquiries, Detective Culloy and Constable Sutton made two smart arrests as a sequel to the police activities. Ira George Land, aged 29 years, brush manufacturer, Ward Street, Hamilton, and Leonard Francis Murray, aged 21, were charged before Mr. Wyvern Wilson, S.M., at Hamilton, today with breaking, entering and theft. Detective Culloy asked for a remand to February 7. stating that a further remand might be necessary pending inquiries. He stated that some of the missing articles had been found in the possession of accused, but the bulk of the goods had not been recovered. Accused applied for bail, which was opposed by Detective Culloy, who stated the accused had given no assistance in the investigations. The remand was granted, bail being fixed in the substantial amount of £I,OOO in each case, being £SOO personal recognisance and two sureties of £250 each.
