BRILLIANT FIELDS
GOOD HORSES ENGAGED EVEN LOT IN THE CUP THE PROSPECTS DISCUSSED THANKS to its location as an accessible portion of Greater Auckland, the Takapuna Jockey Club’s meetings are up to metropolitan status, and have been so for years. The best horses are attracted by the stake money on offer, and consequently there is always excellent racing—the principal feature that draws the largest crowd. To-morrow’s programme is a brilliant one, and with a similar state of affairs practically certain on the concluding day on Monday (Anniversary Day) the club is assured of a successful fixture. The conditions at present are all in favour of this beingrecorded. 120 TRIAL STAKES * Of £250; 7 furlongs. Ked Comet did well on Beau Cavalier 9 11 that occasion, and he has not gone off in the meantime. Bold Front . 9 7 Uralla has had several races over the sticks in the Acushla . . ! 9 5 meantime, and this should have further assisted to season Lady Spalpeen 9 3 her - Ricon Abbey is in a shorter race, and from what Pekatahi ..91 has been seen of him the latter race will suit him more. Bizzaro ..91 Beau Cavalier has the pace, but it is doubted whether he „ n can concede the well-bred Bold Front four pounds. The rjeauiy ... » u latter now has another chance to crack it. Acushla is a fair stayer in her class, Pekatahi showed a lot of pace at Taumarunui, and Frowning Beauty is a possibility. A pair that will command respect are BOLD FRONT and RED COMET 1 *lO STEWARDS’ HANDICAP Of £500; 6 furlongs. Nancy Lee . 9 2 Five out of the nine acceptors present an interesting TcTSim ' 7 9 situation, for they can be classed among the possibilities, Melissa * 7 8 those omitted being Auruniavis, Value and Appellant, Dave . ! ! I 7 C although if ip form the first pair would have to be conHigh Finance 7 F, sidered. Heading the list is the consistent Nancy Lee, who Flying Juliet 7 .7 in the past few months has proved herself among the , • ■ l ’ first flight of sprinters, and one well up to weight. She -Appellant . . i u is not overburdened to-morrow. Tea Time will be peculiarly suited by the turning course, and at his best would seriously bother the top weight, from which it can be assumed that he is a good one. Melissa was a speedy Lwo-year-old last year, and in her only two starts this season, in Taranaki, she won one race and was second in the other, striking evidence that she retains her pace. Dave proved himself a regular Gloaming among the sprinters up north, and the racing there has done him good. He can carry weight, and, for a big horse, is wonderfully smart on the turns. High Finance may be found more solid to-morrow, a fact suggested by her splendid effort on the concluding day at Ellerslie. Flying Juliet has a luxurv weight and if in anything like form must go well tmeA-.os the sixth possibility. Ellerslie form may prove best, and that being so best backed should be HIGH FINANCE, NANCY LEE, TEA TIME 2 20 TAKAPUNA CUP Of £1,000; 1!. miles. Pegaway ..90 A field of nine should ensure a true-run race with a Tra^fSmU - 1 i minimum of interference, and with nothing particularly Desert Glow 7l* outstanding the race should be an exciting one. Pegaway Mint Leaf . . 7 11 showed a welcome return to form at Ellerslie, and with True Blood . 7 3 to P weight is by no means out of it. He finishes well, and Alonsoa ... 7 0 if placed handy at the home turn will cause some trouble ®oat . ... 7 0 over the last bit. Eden Hall is a dangerous horse to , . recommend, for he seems to be just good enough to run i Ti T ■ ; • into something that has too much pace for him over the last bit. In the smaller field, however, he will be handy. Transformer won this race last year, but since the autumn has shown very little form. On the principle of horses for courses Transformer cannot be neglected. Next on the list is Desert Glow, who is perhaps the ruling fancy for the event He is reported to have come on splendidly of late, and has lost all trace of the soreness that developed when .Siaosi bowled him over immediately after passing the post, the winner of the Te Awamutu Cup. On that small course that win by Desert Glow was chock full of merit. Mint, Leaf failed badly on this track a couple of months ago, being unable to handle the turns. However he galloped brilliantly yesterday morning. True Blood has so far not fulfilled his early good three-year-old form, despite a win at Randwick at the big spring meeting, but he may be well suited by dhe distance. Alonsoa is a coming handicap performer, and she should be the best of those on the minimum Scat is a possibility, for he did not give of his best at Ellerslie recently. Wedding March is to be numbered among the likely ones for one has memories of the way lie out-classed a highweight field two months ago. The class is better to-morrow of course. That completes the review of the Takapuna Cup for 1928 The favourites may be DESERT GLOW, EDEN HALL, PEGAWAY *1 5 FERRY HANDICAP Of £275; 7 furlongs. Mithra ran remarkMon Star ..70 ably well on her only outing to date, for, after being very slow over the first part at Ellerslie she got up to beat Patadawn for third. If she begins well she will be hard to beat. Catonian is a good youngster, and his gallops this week have shown that he will be more forward than expected. He should never have been beaten in a similar race on the opening day at Takapuna last meeting. Nankin Blue, Justify, White Wings Winnington, Merxcis and Mon Star all have pace, but unless the unforseen occurs the topweights should hold them Safe.
