TAKAPUNA TRANSPORT PROVES SATISFACTORY
HOLIDAY TRAFFIC LARGE INCREASE SHOWN “I consider our transport is a credit to the district,” declared Cr. J. IS. Close, at a meeting of the Takaputia Borough Council, when the inspectoi’s report on the handling of traffic by the North Shore Transport Company during the holiday season was received. ■‘lt is remarkable that over 162,000 passengers were carried during three weeks without any accidents.” “At last we have a really efficient service," was Cr. A. M. Gould’s comment. “The transport is being conducted in a very satisfactory manner.” The council complimented the traffic inspectors on the manner in which the transport had been supervised. During the period from December 26 to January 15, a total of 162,386 passengers were carried by the Transport Company. During the similar period in 1926-27, the Takapuna Tram and Ferry Company, then in control, carried 79,145 passengers. The actual increase is net so great as would appear, as about 50,000 additional passengers were carried by the United Service Motor Company, then operating between Milford and Devonport. The increase in the number carried this season is approximately 33,000. During the holiday period, buses were kept in reserve in case of breakdown or accident. The company is now operating 32 buses, with a total accommodation for 1.008 passengers.
