GANGSTERS WITH BOMBS ADMINISTRATORS’ HOMES ATTACKED By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. Reed. 10.45 a.m. CHICAGO, Thursday. Following the city administration’s attempts to curb crime, and Mayor W. Thompson’s declaration that gang terrorism must end, the gangsters have retaliated with dynamite. They bombed the homes of Mr. Thompson’s closest associates. The first intended victim was Mr. Charles Fitzmorris, the city controller, who is second in office to the Mayor. The front of his home was torn away by a dynamite bomb thrown from a motor-car. Mr. Fitzr. \ rris, with his wife and son and maid, were in the house, but were not ijijured.
A second bomb, aimed either at Mr. William Reid, who 4s powerful in Mr Thompson’s political organisation, or at Mr. John Allen, who recently was a candidate for alderman, exploded between their homes, but did little damage. The police immediately started an investigation, but they are reticent about details. The Mayor’s home is constantly under guard.—A. and N.Z.
