BOY’S LIFE SAVED
MAN’S BRAVE DEED RESCUER NEARLY DROWNED Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Wednesday. In saving a boy from drowning a. Sumner this afternoon, a middle-aged man came near to losing his own life. At 2 o’clock a seven-year-old boy, whose surname is Mortimer, and whos j home is in Sydenham, was fishing or bathing at the base of Cave Rock, when he fell into the sea. A man rushed forward, jumped i:i and dragged the boy on to the rocks. In climbing out himself the ma.i slipped into deep water and was carried out by the current. The lifeboa t siren was sounded and the crew arrived, but in the meantime a yacht drew alongside the man, who was held up until he could be restored to th e beach. He was in a very exhausted condition and it was only after very strenuous efforts and the arrival of a doctor that hope was held out for his recovery.
