A PROMISING PACER
T INGFIELD, a five-year-old , mare by the great Author Dillon, from a mare called Gianella, who was by Quincey, a son of Vancleve, from Queen V., by Kentucky, is showing pretty consistent form this season, both in sprint events and over a distance. A feature of Lingfield is that, she can go equally well in harness or saddle, and for this reason is a valuable asset to her owner, Mr. H. Booth, a popular Southland enthusiast. At the Oamaru Labour Day fixture, the Author Dillon mare was saddled up twice and after striking her colours to that good pacer King Pointer in the ten-furlong flutter, was beaten into second place in the mile by another hot customer in Huon Denver.
Her latest achievement was to win the Gore Cup on Boxing Day, when she registered a smart and attractive performance. Lingfield is in the mile saddle handicap at Dunedin on Friday, and no doubt the big majority of acceptors will wish she stays away.
