RECENT WEDDINGS
LANE—BURLING The wedding was celebrated at St. John’s Church, Oliakune, on Tuesday evening of Margaret Gladys, eldest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. A. Burling, of Oliakune, to Mr. Cecil Grandville, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Lane, of Dunedin. The Rev. P. A. Stanley officiated. The bride was given away by her father, and she looked charming in a frock of shell-pink satin, with panniers of silk lace, and beautiful pearl ornaments. She also wore a pearl coronet and handsome veil, which was carried by a little train-bearer. The bride carried a sheaf of Christmas lilies. The train-bearer, Tlielijia Burling, wore a primrose crepe de chine frock trimmed at the back with flowers in dainty shades. Miss Dorothy Burling was chief bridesmaid, and wore a picture frock of eau de nil crepe de chine, trimmed with bands of insertion in the skirt. She carried a posy of cream roses. The bride was also attended by Miss Mavis Benbow, who wore a frock of mauve crepe de chine, and Miss Gladys Presnell, who wore bois de rose crepe de chine. Each carried posies to tone. The bride’s mother was wearing a model frock of rose beige crepe de chine, pleated, with touches of hand embroidery, and she carried a bouquet to tone. The bridegroom’s mother wore a handsome fawn repp frock, with hat to match. Mr. A. O’Keefe acted as best man and Air. W. Dobson and Air. A. White were groomsmen. After the ceremony the bride’s mother held a reception at the Oddfellows’ Hall. 'There were about 60 guests present. Among them were Air. and Airs. Graves and Mr. and Airs. Stewart, of Auckland; Airs. Lane, of Dunedin; Air. and Mrs. Newcombe, of Wellington; Air. and Mrs. Wade, of Raetihi; ATiss ATcLean, of Waipukurau; Mr. and Airs. Petherwick, of Mataroa. Later in the evening the young couple left for the North, where the honeymoon will be spent.
GWILLIAM—SHEPHERD
When the marriage took place in St. AlattheW’s Church yesterday of Ruby Jessie Dalziel, the only daughter of Air. and the late Airs. A. Shepherd, of Seafield View Road, Auckland, to Frederick, the second son of Air. and Mrs. G. W. Gwilliam, of Wanganui Avenue, Herne Bay, a dainty frock of silver lace mounted on ivory georgette was worn by the bride. Tiny frills of georgette outlined each graceful panel of silver lace, which com-
posed the attractive skirt, and a novel touch was given to the bride’s toilette by the largo roses of silver tissue which caught her pretty tulle veil to her head. A trail of silver flowers fell at one side over the veil to accentuate the silvery note, which appeared again in two long tassels that finished the train-like veil. Lilies-of-the-valley mingled their fragrance with white sprays of stock in the bridal bouquet. Aliss Alice Deacon attended as bridesmaid, wearing a charming frock of georgette and satin in rose tonings. A slender bodice of satin was attached to a skirt composed of. tier upon tier of georgette, and an attractive crinoline hat of matching colour was worn and trimmed with narrotv bands of velvet ribbon. The bridesmaid carried a posy of pink-tinted flowers. Mr. Gordon Gwilliam attended as best mam The bride was given away by her father and the ceremony was performed by the Rev. FI. W. Heaslip.
