WITH THE BOY SCOUTS
The Scouts of the Papakura troop intend holding a camp-fire singsong in the Reserve on the evening of Friday, January 27. The Shackleton, Otahuhu, and Pukekohe troops will be present at the gathering, and also the Manurewa and Papakura Girl Guides. The Kitchener* troops returned last Saturday after spending a fortnight in camp on private property at Ferndale in charge of Scoutmaster A. S. Oxley and Assistant Scoutmaster Sladden. The Wolf Cubs also attended, in the care of Cubmaster A. "J. Gaily. The boys were fortunate in having an excellent camping site, with a fine swimming pool hard by, and the camp itself showed evidence of Scout and Cub work of a very high order. A feature of the camp was the daily trek up the Waitakeres, each patrol taking it in turn to accomplish the journey and remaining out from camp for one night. This camp was one of the best organised of the season. The Taui-anga Boy Scouts went into their annual camp on Monday, January 16, at Oropi. The camp will consist of over 30 boys, besides the officers. Very complete arrangements have been made, and it is expected that the campers will spend an instructive and interesting time during their fortnight under canvas. Wednesdays and Sundays have been set apart to receive visitors, and Sunday services have been arranged for. Eleven Cubs of St. David’s pack, under Scoutmaster Marks, spent a happy time camping in the Mangere Domain, and returned to their homes on January 12. Swimming and Cub work were freely indulged in, and a camp-fire evening was also held. Ideal camping weather favoured the little party, which dispersed with regret.
