Valuable Costumes Destroyed by Fire

THEATRICAL SETS MOST VALUABLE COLLECTION Press Association. $ DUNEDIN, 1 To-day. A fire in Mr. T. De Spong’s theatrical studio in Lower Stuart Street last evening destroyed sets of theatrical costumes valued at many thousands of pounds, and reputed to be the most valuable set in Australia or New Zealand. One set destroyed consisted of the original costumes purchased by the late Tom Pollard for the production of “The Forty Thieves.” All the Shakespearean costumes were destroyed also. Tho insurances were only £I,OOO. Mr. D© Spong's stock had a wide reputation. It was in use all over New Zealand. Structurally, little damage was done.
