VALUES AT WESTFIELD market for calves m*t with a firm demand and jald at unchanged rates at Westf.ld to-day. An offering of approximately 300 steers and 350 cows and heifers came forward. Big-framed, well-finished cattle, not over-fat, on his account, made to £l4. Three trucks of mostly big-framed steers, on account of Trewin Bros., X&rohemo, had plaintly lost weight on the journey to the market, but even so, made to £l3 2s 6d. N'uggety, extra choice prime small lg-months-old Hereford steers made from £S to £8 2s 6d. Young, medium-framed cattle, fairly well done, on account W. Main, Tirau, made from £lO 17s 6d to £l2 2s 6d. Light and small-framed prime steers, on account H. and R. Dingle, Kaipara Flats, made good money on tho day at £9 to £9 12s fid. Two yards of medium-framed prime steers, not carrying any surplus fat. on account G. Wlnstone, made £lO 10s and £lO 12s 6d. Small prime steers made £8 10s to £9 ss. Light and unfinished sorts made from about £7. X large percentage of the cow and heifer offering represented culls from dairy herds. Few' clean lines of beef cattle came forward, and the offering, generally* comprised light and medium weight cattle. Values were firm at late rates. Heavy prime young cows and heifers made to £8 17s fid; light and smallerframed prime, £5 12s fid to £6 15s. Unfinished and small from about £3 10s. A rather short yarding of calves met a firm market, prices at times bring up to 5s a head in advance of lato rates. A large line of 68 calves on account W. F. Harding. Matamata. helped to steady the market. Though not. over prime or weighty, the line generally was well up to ordinary butchers’ requirements and made from £ 1 7s to £i 6s. Some extra choice heavy prime vealers sold toward the close of the sale made up to *ls 9s. A short yarding of sheep met with a Arm demand. In the first row. heavy prime wethers on account of G. It. Monro. Clevedon, made to 29s 9d. Down-cross heavy prime ewes made :3s d. Other heavy prime ewes made to 20s 3d. A shorter yarding of four looselyftlled rows of lambs oame forward and sold at unchanged rates.
