TO-DAY’S PLAY
OTAGO’S BIG TASK Press Association. DUNEDIN, To-day. Perfect cricketing conditions prevailed for the third day of the Plunket Shield game. Otago, with 140 runs to make to avoid an innings defeat, continued the second innings at 11.30, Dickinson (77, not out) facing the bowling of McGirr. Knight (83, not out) was his partner. The former played McGirr’s first over carefully, but confidently, the northern bowler registering a maiden. Prom the first ball of Badcock’s over Otago lost one of her hopes, for Knight patted it softly into the hands of Lambert in slips. 193—ff—83. Vorrath, the incoming batsman, started shakily, but quickly won applause for two drives to boundary. Massey relieved Badcock, but the men at the crease continued to find good scoring openings. Vorrath reached 40 after batting for a little over'half an hour. In an endeavour to separate the partnership by a change of bowling Brice replaeed Massey, but the batsmen still shaped with confidence. Dickinson reached his century at 12.30, after batting, all told, two hours 16 minutes. The score at 12.30 was 6—284 (Knight, c Lambert, b Badcock, 83; Dickinson, not out, 103; Vorrath not out, 62; extras, 10).
