WAIHI ELECTRICITY

STEAM POWER PLANT The electric power plant at the Waihi Grand Junction Mine recently acquired by the Public Works Department, is now in commission continuously over the 24 hours on practically a full load. Up till Christmas Eve the plant was running on two shifts, but since that date three shifts have been employed. The current generated is upwards of 2,000 horse-power, and involves a consumption of nearly 70 tons of coal a day. The production of power will be further increased when the second large generating set is repaired and put into working order. This will enable the plant to increase the supply to 3,000 h.p. a day.
