“THE KING OF KINGS”

A BEAUTIFUL FILM “The King of Kings' is not an ordinary film',” says the London “Sunday Pictorial” of October 30, 1927. "It is at once a masterpiece of photography and a sincere sermon which leaves a lasting impression on the spectator. Whether de Mill© intended it as such is beside the point. It is the result which must be regarded. The King of Kings' will offend no one. It is a film of extraordinary beauty and delicacy. Its real merit lies in its restraint and naturalness. The reverence with which certain scenes are handled, such as the Ascent of Calvary, is outstanding. It is difficult to decide whether this or another incident showing a little blind girl seeking the Saviour is the more affecting. It has been suggested that the scene portraying the Christ in .agony is an exploitation of the supreme sacrifice for commercial ends. It is not. The scene is the very spirit of the picture. Its heartrending poignancy portrays the very foundation from which the Christian religion arose.”
