Mr. Cosgrave was enthusiastically greeted by large crowds on his arrival tor a fortnight’s visit. He was officially received by the Mayor, Mr. James Walker. Extraordinary police precautions were taken to prevent demonstrations by Republican sympathisers. Two hundred detectives and 8,000 uniformed police guarded the line of march from the pier to the City Hall. Women bearing placards attacking the Free State attempted a demonstration, which, however, died in incipiency.—A. and N.Z.
