tests in television long-distance speech

British Wireless — Tress -Assn. — Copyright RUGBY, Thursday. Mr. J. L. Baird, the inventor of television, and experts who are associated with him, announce that television will b« definitely established between London and New York. During the past few weeks experiments have resulted • n f a ce* and hands being seen across the Atlantic. Although the features were indistinct it is anticipated that this will be overcome in the near future. — A. and N.Z. B# Cables —Press Association. — Copyright. LONDON. Thursday. World-wide telephonic conversation has been brought appreciably nearer by an important development in international telephony, namely, by the extension of the transatlantic service to the Continent of Europe. Hitherto the United States, Cuba lind Canada have been able to speak only to the chief cities in Britain, but now direct communication is possible with Brussels and Antwerp. This is the consummation of many months of research and experiment. Messages from Antwerp to Cuba travel by land line and cable to London, thence to Rugby, and from Rugby they are sent by wireless across the Atlantic to Maine. From Maine the messages go to Cuba via New York, by cable and land line, without interruption,— A and N.Z.
