HIGHWAY MILEAGE
NORTHERN ALLOCATIONS COMPLETED RECOMMENDATIONS (From Our Own Correspondent) WHANGARBI, to-day. i conti nued sitting of the No. Council at Whangarei yesterday it was decided to recomJ 1 the following additional allocations of highway mileage:— . tn ß ;‘ a r y ,- co nnty, 30 miles; Otamatea, 30, including 3& on Ruawai Flats; HobS > “.’. 41 h, including the Dargaville, Kaihu, Tangowahine Valley, and Tangiteroria and Waiotira roads. The largest allocations recommended were: Whangarei, 61J; Hokianga, 51*. The chairman of the Whangarei connty, Mr. L. Webb, urged that the Whangarei - and WhangareiOakleigh Roads be regarded as in the category of those close to cities or boroughs, and this was agreed to Other Whangarei county roads in the recommendations are: WhangareiWhareora, Kamo-Hikuranga, Wlian-garei-Kiripaka, and Wairua Road, which Mr. Webb said carried 320 tons of butter-fat, besides wool. The Hikurangi-Marua Road suffered an adverse decision, but was subsequently reconsidered and approved, bringing the total up to 611. Bay of Islands was allocated 271, includng the Okaihau-lloreke Road; WTiangaroa, had 93; Mangonui, 34*. totalling, with Waitemata's 211, £315. On the motion of Mr. R. Coates, Otamatea, it was decided to ask the Highways Board to pay the expenses of district councils making a tour of their districts at approved intervals. The chairman of the Whangaroa county, Mr. Lane, urged that county councils should take measures to prevent the disfigurement and injury of roadside trees* _ —1 ' / ,
