LAKE TAKAPUNA

AUTHORITY GIVEN FOR CONSERVATION POWERS FOR BOROUGHS (From Our Resident Correspondent.') WELLINGTON, To-day. Powers are being conferred on the North Shore Boroughs Water Supply Board to conserve the water of Lake Takapuna. It is authorised, under proclamation: (1) To make by-laws controlling the withdrawal of water from Lake Takapund for public purposes, and for the prohibition of the withdrawal of water fro mthe lake for public purposes, excepting under terms of a licence from the board regulating and restricting the quantity of water to be withdrawn from the lake from time to time by the licensees for public purposes. (2) Licensing, regulating, restricting or prohibiting the withdrawal of water from the lake for purposes other than public purposes and domestic purposes. (3) Controlling the withdrawal of water from the lake by owners or occupiers of land contiguous to the shore for domestic or other use, and prohibiting the withdrawal of water for any such use excepting under licence, and imposing on the licensees a scale of charges. (4) Regulating, controlling, or prohibiting the use of water drawn from the lake for the watering of gardens, lawns and streets, and giving power to make by-laws for purposes of the protection from pollution of from the risk of pollution of the water supply derived from Lake Takapuna, and of maintaining the purity of the water supply.
