NEWMARKET DOGS

“STRAYS” MUST WATCH OUT TAX GATHERER APPOINTED There are between 90 and 100 dogs in Newmarket living under the protection of the collars issued by the Newmarket Borough Council. At the council meeting last evening there was argument concerning. the payment that should be made to the man who collected the registration fees. The fee is 7s 6d a. dog, and of this amount the collector, has in the past, received one shilling. When a new collector was appointed last evening it was decided to give him half-a-crown for every dog registered. “We don’t want to worry so much about the registration of the dogs as the getting rid of the "strays” in the borough,” said a councillor. “What department does the collector come under?” asked another councillor. “Waterworks,” replied another.
