FOUND DEAD

LONELY CARETAKER THOUGHT TO BE SUICIDE Yesterday, when the city -water inspector called at 74 Slirotland Street, he found the caretaker, Arnold Kay, lying dead with his head in a gas oven. It is believed that Mr. Kay had committed suicide because he was appalled at the thought of living alone in the house. Two letters found in the house had been written by the deceased. It is thought that Mr. Kay had been dead for some days. He was an elderly man and lived alone in the house. “Te Ingoa,” 74 Shortland Street, is a large three-storeyed building, the property of Mrs. Humphrey Haines. It has been vacant for some time, and Mr. Kay had been engaged there as a caretaker. The house is at the foot of a high rise some distance down from Shortland Street. An inquest will be held.
