GIRL GUIDES’ CORNER
The majority of the Guide companies lire now in camp and their activities will be reported later. The St. Mary’s, St. Mark’s and St. Francis Companies are holding a combined camp on the property of Mr. P. Holt, at Papakura, and had heir visitors’ day last Saturday. The Guides of the Kakaraai Cornpar'- have found an excellent site at Papatoetoe. shaded by pines and near a running stream.
Silver Dove, the Kakamai lieutenant, writes that next Saturday is visitors’ day and that the camp is within easy walking distance if one takes the train to Puhunui.
St. Peter’s Company, Hamilton, left for Okete on January 15, a distance of 20 miles This spot is reserved for the annual camps of Scouts and Guides and is an excellent place for spending a holiday under canvas. • • •
Golden Noon, a Cavell Ranger, forwards the following news: The Cavell Company is in camp at Manurewa and made the journey on January 7. Miss B. MacCormac is Commandant and about 30 girls are under canvas. Each day during last week, patrol hikes and picnics were on the programme, and on one occasion about a dozen girls helped to put out a gorse fire which was out of control. They enjoyed themselves im-
mensely. The camp has adopted a baby rabbit whose life is in hourly danger from overfeeding with lettuce. Miss Burgin leaves Honolulu to-day. on her return from the camp held by the American Girl Scouts. She has had a wonderful time in camp with Scouts of all nationalities, including Americans, Hawaiians, Porto Ricans, Chinese, an dJapanese.
