WIG-WAG SIGNAL AT CROYDON ROAD

NEEDED ELSEWHERE A protest against the policy of the RaLway Department a wig\vaf signal at the Croydon Road level crossing instead of concentrating on the more dangerous crossings comes frpm Mr. W. J. 'Willmott, of Parker Avenue, New Lynn. “Yesterday a start was made with the erection of a wig-wag signal at the Croydon Road crossing,” said Mr. Wi!lmott this morning. “There has not been one accident there in the memory of the oldest inhabitant. The crossing is not very dangerous as it can be seen from all approaches and the train travels over it at not more than three miles an hour.” Mr. Willmott says that the crossing, which is between New Lynn and Glen Eden, does not carry any large volume of motor traffic—probably not more than 13 or 14 lorries a day. The City Council buses cross over at hourly intervals.

“I think it is absurd that a signal should be erected at the Croydon Road crossing and that other much more dangerous crossings, such as that at Morningside. should be left without «*•» concludes Mr. Willmott. ,
