COACHES IN DEMAND

CRICKET ASSOCIATION’S PROBLEM TRAINING OF SUBURBANITES The Auckland Cricket Association’s professional coaches, E. H. Bowley and J. Langridge, continue to be much sought after by outside associations. At last evening's meeting of the Management Committee of the Auckland Cricket Association, the Rotorua and Thames Associations pressed their requests for a visit from one of the Englishmen. Bowley was to have gone to Rotorua next week, but this does not the Rotorua people, because the schools are on holiday, and consequently some of the most promising players are away from home. They now suggest the third or fourth week in February. The Thames Association also wrote advising that the first week in February would suit them for either of the coaches to pay a visit. It-was decided to reply that with the Wellington match coming off shortly, the committee would be unable to send Bowley, but that every effort would be made to send Langridge. SUBURBAN ASSOCIATION’S REQUEST. A letter was received from the Auckland Suburban Cricket Association also asking for the use of one of the coaches for one day per week during the remainder of the present season on terms to be arranged. Mr. E. C. Beale objected that there were many players in the A.O.A. ranks who were wanting to be coached and could not get it. Mr. N. C. Snedden: It would still be the same if we had three or four coaches. He felt disposed to help the younger body in this matter. Mr. E. E. . Nalder (chairman): We spend a lot of time coaching secondary school boys, and yet we never get a bean out of them. The secondary schools have not contributed one penny piece to the coaching fund. Mr. J. H. Miller moved that Langridge be placed at the disposal of the Suburban Association each Monday from 3 p.m. to 6.30 p.m., during the remainder of the season, * subject to the reservation that ’th6 Auckland Association can recall him if necessary when Bowley is away with the reps. Mr. W. S. Smeeton seconded, and the motion was carried. The question of terms was left to the Suburban Association to contribute whatever sum it thought fit.
