TOO MUCH SPEEDING

WAIPA COUNTY ACTING The members of the Waipa County Council have decided to institute proceedings against fast-driving motorists on the county roads. Cr. Livingstone thought the time had arrived for drastic action to prevent motor speeding. There was too much of it in the county. Cr. Saulbrey stated that in his riding some drivers regularly exceeded 40 miles an hour. This was not fair to other users of the roads. The county by-laws should be enforced. The chairman said the No. 2 District Council had briefly discussed the subject, when it was stated that one service car had done the journey between Hamilton and Ngaruawahia in 12 minutes. Thus the speed was about 60 miles an hour.
