VANDALISM AT PAPATOETOE
SPORTS PAVILION ENTERED "Various acts of vandalism have been perpetrated in Papatoetoe of late, mainly in connection with the shrubs planted in the town reserves. Branches have been torn from the young trees, and the seats donated by residents and friends have received rather rough usage. The latest report to hand, is in connection with the breaking and enter--3 esterday afternoon, of the cricket club’s portion of the pavilion on the sports ground, Great South Road. One of the cricket club’s women supporters, on noticing some strangers making use of the club’s gear at the practice nets, communicated with the captain of the club and he made a hurried visit to the scene, and was in time to see the uninvited guests making off. They were fortunately seen and identified by another member of the team, and the matter was placed in the hands of the police. On examination, it was found that the padlock on the door had been wrenched off, and damage done to pads and wickets, which were strewn all over the floor. and balls were also found to be missing.
