WOOL VALUES INCREASE
PRICES RISE AT NAPIER A KEEN SALE / Press Association. NAPIER, Monday. A cheerful tone marked the opening of the third Napier wool sale this evening and almost from the initial bid it was apparent that the cheerfulness was to be justified. There was an improvement on the recent Wellington sale estimated at 5d and a decided advance on the last local sale. It was unmistakably apparent that buyers were anxious to secure wool, and if they were not prepared to go to extremes to purchase it, they were at least willing to pay more than previously. The catalogue consists of 29,000 bales, and of 12,000 sold to-night a negligible number was passed. This was occasioned by the quality of the particular wool offered, which was high. The lots were of such variety as to suit all operators on the market. Bradford and the Continent were operating freely, while the American concerns represented and local buyers maintained the pace. SALES AT SYDNEY SYDNEY, Monday. At the wool sales there was keen competition for all descriptions of fleece and skirtings at prices fully equal to the best of last week’s prices. Comebacks and crossbreds sold at full kite rates. Greasy Merino sold to 35£d. A. and N.Z.
