LONELY MAN ATTEMPTS SUICIDE
CHARGE AT HAMILTON (From Our Otc» Correspondent J HAMILTON. To-day A conviction was 'entered, and accused was ordered to pay medical expenses. this morning, when a charge of attempted suicide was preferred against Victor Allwood Walmslev Hellings. aged 52 years. It was stated that accused was a sawmill hand at Otorohanga. and in a fit of despondency following- a drinking bout made all attempt to take his life by cutting his throat and stabbing himself in the chest.
He was found wandering 12 miles from Otorohanga. Accused, who is a native of Ireland, said his head was affected as a result of war service, and he was driven by the loneliness of the place to attempt suicide.
