MORE WITNESSES HEARD JUDGE HERDMAN ON BENCH By Cable.—Press Association.—Copyright SYDNEY, Friday. The inquest concerning the deaths in the Greycliffe disaster was resumed to-day Mr. Justice Herdman, of New Zealand, sat on the Bench with the coroner. Mr. McDonald, engineer of the Manly ferry steamer Burrabra, said the maximum speed of his boat was from 14 to 14£ knots. Then, in reply to a question by the coroner, he said that off Garden Island his boat was following the Tahiti, and the Burrabra was travelling at 13J knots. He saw he could not overhaul the Tahiti on the west side of Bradley's Head, so he went below to open the Burrabra’s engine to full speed. Rupert Nixon, helmsman on the Burrabra, said he saw the Grecliffe alter her course. He did not think there would have been an accident if the Tahiti had slowed down to let the Greycliffe get past. He saw the Greycliffe turn to port across the Tahiti’s course. REGULATIONS INQUIRY As an outcome of the GreycUCe disaster, at a meeting of misters of steamers to-day, it was resolve! to request the Federal Government to appoint a Royal Commission to inquire into the regulations concerning navigation in Sydney Harbour. —A. and N.Z.
