“BRIGADIER GERARD”
A VIRILE CAST An excellently produced, intensely interesting costume romance of the Napoleonic period, “Brigadier Gerard,” has the virile Rod La* Rocque in the leading role, with Phyllis Haver as the heroine. The plot has been founded on Conan Doyle’s fine novel, “The Adventures of Brigadier Gerard,” and the picture is a surprising combination of artistry and clever production. The suspense reaches its highest point when Napoleon realises that the hero is about to be shot unjustly, and rushes to the scene of the shooting, eventually saving him. There is some very good comedy, which relieves the tenseness of the dramatic action, and the fine acting of Sam de Grasse as Talleyrand, and Max Bar wyn as Napoleon Bonaparte, are not the least interesting features of the production. Rod La Rocque is particularly dashing as Gerard, and Phyllis Haver’s blonde beauty is well suited to ihe leading feminine role. The vicissitudes of the intrepid and handsome hero will be followed with absorbed interest. A P.D.C. production released through First National.
