NEW REGENT

“SERVICE FOR LADIES” Winter sports in the Swiss Alps, including a sensational race down the fastest toboggan slide in the world, and a spectacular ice carnival, are some of the features of Adolphe Menjou’s latest Paramount picture, “Service For Ladies,” which comes to the New Regent Theatre to-morrow. Snow scenes of exceptional beauty are said to characterise this phase of what Menjou declares to be the best picture he has ever made. High up in the Sierra Nevada Mountains of Northern California, 24 hours by train from He //wood, snow is to be found all winter long. By the frozen shores of Lake Tahoe, one of America’s most beautiful scenic spots, were the scenes made. A toboggan slide modelled after the famous slide at St. Mortiz, reputed the fastest in the world, was constructed. There were made scenes declared by critics to be the most spectacular toboggan shots ever filmed. In a brilliant ice carnival, staged on the smooth ice of the lake, Menjou appears in the colourful garb of a hetman of Cossacks. Supporting the star in this glamorous tale of back stage hotel life and alpine sports, is a strong cast, headed by Kathryn Carver. On the stage “Peg o’ the Ring” is making her first appearance in Australasia. Coming direct from a great triumph in America, this little lady presents a sensational and delightful aerial act. “Peg o’ the Ring” will appear for one week only. On the pictorial side, there are very strong supporting attractions. The eighth of that popular series of Music Masters, “the Life and Work of Wagner,” - will be screened, lending itself in all its thundering harmony to the usual splendid accompaniment by the Regent Orchestra and organ. Another Fox-Monkey film, introducing Max Moritz and Akka, the amazing monkey movie marvels, who are appearing personally at the stage of the Regent shortly, will be shown, also usual pictorial supports.
