BIG AIRSHIP TO BE SOLD
NEW R 100 CRAFT TRANSATLANTIC SERVICE By Cable. —Press Association. — Copyright. Reed. 1.30 p.m. LONDON, Tues. The airship RIOO is to be sold to a company Commander C. D. Burney is organising, for experimental transatlantic flights, prior to forming a £7,000,000 company to run a regular service between Britain, Canada, and the United Sttaes.
The crossing from England to North America will take 48 hours, and eastward in 38 hours.
Commander Burney explains that the airship mail surcharges will be 6d an ounce on letters and 2s a pound on parcels. Passenger fares will be £l2O in a single berth, £IOO in a two-berth cabin, and £BO in a four-berth cabin. If the RIOO flights succeed he proposes to build a new, larger and faster type, with a maximum speed of 100 miles an hour, and a cruising speed of 95 miles an hour, with a cruising endurance of 6,400 miles, carrying 168 passengers.—A. and N.Z.
