TO-DAY’S WEDDING

AT ST. MARY’S CATHEDRAL

BROWNLEE—BURT

St. Mary’s Cathedral was beautifully decorated with summer-time’3 gay flowersforthe wedding which took place this afternoon wrien Nrioiet, the second daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alexandra Burt, of Herne Bay, Auckland, was married to Joseph John, the eldest son of Dr. and Mrs. J. J. Brownlee, of Christchurch.

The church was filled with spectators, for the families of both bride and bridegroom are well known throughout New Zealand, and visitors were present from many parts of the Dominion. The bride wore a charming gown of white satin faconne inset in effective fashion with panels of glistening silver lace and caught with silver posies at the waistline and shoulder. Her veil of gossamer tulle was held in place with sprays of orange blossom; and she carried a beautiful sheaf of white flowers.

The ceremony was performed by the Venerable Archdeacon Whitehead, of Dunedin, and the bride was given *iway by her father. The Rev. Ernest Chitty played appropriate nuptial music at the organ. Dr. C. McDowell acted as best man.

Miss Margaret Burt attended the bride as bridesmaid, wearing an attractive frock of shot briar-rose taffetas, to which panels of gold lace lent a distinctive air. She had a pretty headdress in matching tone and carried a harmonising bouquet. A dainty little flower girl was Joan Saunders in her frock of rose-pink chiffon with a wreath of golden flowers and forget-me-nots in her hair. She carried a pretty posy to tone with her frock. After the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride’s parents in Shelly Beach Road, where the bride’s mother received the guests, wearing a handsome gown of black georgette inset with ecru lace. Her hat was of black and she carried a pretty bouquet. The bridegroom’s mother, Mrs. Brownlee, was in a frock of black lace mounted on georgette and she carried a blue bouquet. When the bride and groom left for a wedding tour the former wore a smart gown of Madonna blue crepe alonza with a close-fitting hat to match.

Among those at the reception were: Mrs. George Eddowes, sister of the bride, wearing a frock of cinnamonbrown georgette and a smart green hat. Miss Burt, Dunedin, in a frock of cornflower blue ninon with a becoming hat to tone. Mrs. W. R. Saunders, Wellington, who wore a frock of russet georgette with a hat of matching shade. Mrs. W. W. Massey, In a wine-coloured satin crepe gown and a rose hat. Miss Brownlee, Christchurch; Miss Marv Brownlee, Christchurch; Mr. and Mrs. J. Black, Mr. and Mrs. Wingfield, Mrs. and Miss Napier, Mr. and Mrs. James Hodgson, Mr. . and Mrs. Athol Hodgson, Mrs. White, Dr. and Mrs. Lewis, Captain and Mr. Lewis, and many others.
