HAMILTON PROBLEMS
WATER POSITION ACUTE APPEAL TO GOVERNMENT (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, To-day. A special meeting was held by the Borough Council last night to consider the position created by the effect of Arapuni operations in badly discolouring the water supply. It was decided to procure a chemical plant costing about £IOO to treat the water before it went through the filters, with a view to alleviating the trouble due to fine sediment. The acting-engineer reported that the present state of affairs in regard to the water supply was very unsatisfactory, and the only chance of safeguarding the pump was rigidly to restrict the use of water. The difficulty might be tided over if the existing conditions did not continue more than three weeks. If conditions did not improve after that it was stated that possibly a new pump costing £IOOO. would be required. The council decided to place restrictions on the use of water and inform the Government of the expense incurred following the Arapuni operation and suggesting that the council should be relieved.
