VEGETABLES PLENTIFUL STRAWBERRIES FALLING OFF
There was a decided falling-off in the quantity of strawberries forwarded to the city markets to-day. The demand was very poor, and the prices eased somewhat from the level of a week ago. Plums of all varieties also were scarce. Good quality dessert kinds sold well, sultans making _Ss to 12s a case, and Burbanks 3s 6d to 7s 6dL Fair quantities of local apples were marketed, but there was no inquiry for any but the choicest grades. Out-door tomatoes were auctioned in considerably larger quantities. The demand remains good. Lemons were very scarce, cured selling at 25s a case and others making from 10s to 18s. After a temporary shortage during the holidays, vegetables of most kinds were available in heavy supply. The first of this season's pumpkins made their appearance to-day. Cucumbers were sold in increasing quantities. The demand due to the hot weather was well maintained, and prices have eased considerably. The market is still over-supplied with eggs, and the demand continues poor. Fair quantities of farmers’ butter were disposed of to a moderate demand. At the auction this morning, prices ranged as follow: FRUIT Apples: Local cookers, 5s to Ss a case; Astrachans, 3s to 7s 6d; Delicious, 17s; Ganes, 14s to 15s. Pears: P. Barrys. 4s to 5s a case. Oranges: Australian Valencias, 24s to 25s a case; American, 40s. Tomatoes: Hothouse, first grade 7d to 8d a !b, second grade 5d to 6d a lb, outdoor 3d to 7d a lb. Plums: Sultans, ?s to 12s a case: Evan’s Early, 5s 6d to os 6d a case; Wright’s Early, 3s to 6s a case; Burbanks, 3s 6d to 7s 6d a case. Strawberries: 9d to lOd a chip. Apricots: 4s to 12s a case. Lemons: Cured, 25s a case; others, 10s to 18s a case. Bananas: Repacks, 20s to 27s 6d a case. Gooseberries: 4s a case. Peaches: Choice dessert, 8s to 10s a case; cooking, 4s 6d a case. Grapes: Hothouse, Is 9d to 2s 8d a lb. VEGETABLES

Green Peas: 3s 6d to 4s 6d bag. Lettuce: Is to 2s 6d case. Rhubarb: 2s to 3s doz. Spinach: 6d dozen. Fabbage: On benches, 2s to 3s doz. Spring Onions: 6d to Is 3d bundle. Marrows: Is 6d to 4s 6d doz. Carrots, Parsnips, Beet and Turnips: Is 6d to 2s 6d doz. Cucumbers: Outdoor, havy supplies. Is 6d to 3s 6d doz. Radish: 6d doz. DAIRY PRODUCE Hen Eggs: Is 4d to Is 6d a dozen.
