EXCHANGE OF POLICE
AUSTRALIA AND NEW ZEALAND MR. McILVENEY’S VIEWS (From Our Resident Reporter.') WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Questioned concerning the proposal of Mr. Bruntnell, chief secretary of New South Wales Police, to enlarge a scheme for exchange of detectives be-
tween Australia and New Zealand, Mr. W. B. Mcllveney, Commissioner of Police, informed THE SUN’S representative to-day that thare are no provisions in the New Zealand Police Regulations for such exchangee. The question had been before the authorities some years ago, said the Commissioner, but no arrangements were made then and he had heard nothing of the latest proposals. "We have sent men to Australia occasionally for extradition purposes,” he added, ‘‘and for any big function, such as the visit of the Duke and Duchess of York. We have reciprocal arrangements and we did send some men for the Royal tour last year. We have no provision or arrangement for the temporary exchange of officers, however, and should such a proposal be made from Australia it would have to be given careful consideration.” Although the Commissioner could not express any opinion it is believed that the authorities might not be unsympathetic to Mr. Bruntnell’s proposal if officially received.
