YOUTHS’ PROFITABLE SCHEME BAD CHEQUES ISSUED Two brothers, both impoverished, found an easy way of filling empty coffers—but it brought them to the Police Court. To-day Frederick Robert Fox, aged 19, and Arthur Henry Ernest Fox, aged 18, were charged with obtaining goods and money valued at £4O by means of three valueless cheques. Chief-Detective Hammond said that accused had found a cheque book discarded by their father, and making out three cheques they made small purchases from city firms and rej ceived change in big sums.

Mr. Bryce Hart, who appeared for accused, said that they were both out of work, and their mother, who had 12 children, was in dire straits. The accused were remanded a week for sentence
