Last Day at Ellerslie

SIR ARCHIE WINS THE FIRST

THE concluding day of the Auckland Racing Club's Summer Carnival was held at Ellerslie to-day. The weather, after early rain, was overcast, and during the afternoon it was showery. The track was not affected, and there was a large attendance.

Sir Archie Improves All started in the Goodwood Handicap, and in a good opening pool Sir Archie, £1,710, wound up favourite, while there was some money for Scat, £1,226, Bay Guard, £1,054, and Paper Boy, £1,009. Serang, Bay Guard, Le Choucas, Royal Biadem, Paper Boy, Scat, and Archeno was the order out of the bar-

rier, but at the end of a furlong Bay Guard took up the running, and, setting a merry pace, led past the five furlongs from Le Choucas, Royal Biadem, Paper Boy, High Pitch, Archeno, Sir Archie, Serang, and Wenday. with Scat last. The favourite moved up crossing the top, and into the straight was half a length behind Bay Guard, while close up were Sir Archie and Paper Boy, with Archeno, Wenday, Serang, and Scat following. The favourite came away in the run home, to score by a length and a-half :rom Bay Guard, with Le Choucas, who had Bay Guard beaten at the half distance, another half-length back. Archeno was fourth, and then came Wenday, Paper Boy, Scat, Royal Biadem, and High Pitch.

Marion's Birthday, £1,232, and Mauriaena, £1,144. A fine start saw Raasay hop out smartly with Mauriaena, the pair being followed by Fatadawn, Justify, Marion’s Birthday, Moehau, and Shot Silk, with Mithra soon tailing oft. Raasay led past the four furlongs by a length and a-half from Moehau, Mauriaena, and Justify, these three being in a line, and then were Shot Silk and Marion’s Birthday further back. Into the straight Raasay still retained his advantage, with Mauriaena, Fatadawn, and Moehau close up, and Mithra, Marion’s Birthday, and Justify next in order. The favourite gave nothing else a show in the run in, winning by three lengths from Mauriaena, who was two lengths in front of Mithra, y{ith Fatadawn a head away fourth. Marion’s Birthday was fifth, and Moehau sixth, with Shot Silk and Justify at intervals. GRANDSTAND HANDICAP Of £1,000; li miles. 1— MASK (G. M. Currie), br g, by Limond—Cowl, syrs, 8.4, B. Mask's Good Finish Transformer was taken out of the Grandstand Handicap, and of the nine runners most money was forthcoming for Mask £3,630, who was at a short price, while Bennanee £2,255, Doree £1,390, In the Shade £1,299 and Battlement £1,345. Boree, Gala Bay and Siaosi were in a line out of the straight, followed by Battlement, In the Shade, Cohesion, Mask, Bennanee and Front Rank. Passing the old mile Siaosi was in the van, and was attended past the six furlongs by Gala Bay, In the Shade, Boree, Cohesion and Battlement, with Mask, Bennanee and Front Rank the last three in a line. Crossing the top Bennanee improved his position, and they came into the straight with Gala Bay as the pilot from Siaosi, Boree, In the Shade, Battlement, Cohesion and Bennanee, with Mask and Front Rank the last two.- Boree and In the Shade were on terms at the distance, with the favourite coming strongly, and in a good finish Mask scored well by three parts

of a length from Boree, with In the Shade a neck away third. Battlement was nearly a length away fourth, and then came Bennanee, Cohesion, Siaosi and Front Rank, with Gala Bay last. Later results will appear In Stop Press as they come to hand.
