Discovery at Mt. Hobson.—A Maori grindstone, or hoanga, was recently unearthed in the crater of Mt. Hobson. The finder, Mr. C. M. Russell, of Remuera, has presented it to the Auckland Museum. Probation Broken.—Stanley Henry Bevan, aged 36, who appeared at the Police Court to-day charged with breache of the terms of his release on probation, was ordered to come up for sentence any time within six months. By-Election at Whangarei. The by-election to fill the vacancy on the Whangarei Borough Council, caused by the death of Mr. F. W. Moore, resulted in the return of Mr. A. W. Armstrong. Waterloo Relic. A large Union Jack which was carried into action by the Royal Scots Greys at Waterloo has been presented to the Auckland Museum. It is the gift of Colonel Noel Adams, former commandant at Featherston Camp and a descendant of the bearer, Captain Kinchant, who recaptured it from the French. Luna Park Mishap.—A slight improvement is reported in the condition of Michael Liddington, wHt> fell from a car on the scenic railway at Luna Park on Thursday evening. Mr. Liddington is in the Auckland Hospital suffering from severe head and body injuries.
