NEW YEAR RUSH
TRAINS CROWDED HEAVY HOMEWARD BOOKINGS There was a repetition of the Christmas rush at the Auckland Railway Station this morning. A crowded train left for Whangarei and Russell, which have been two of the most favoured holiday resorts this year. An extra carriage had to be put on at Mount Eden and another at Henderson, and two engines were required to draw the heavy load. The Rotorua train was booked ip before it left, and extra accommodation had to be provided for the crowd which intends to spend the week-end in the thermal region. The Limited from Wellington was a very full train. In addition to the ordinary travellers there were many from the Ruahine, which arrived in Wellington yesterday from England. To-day a special train conveyed the Oddfellows from New Lynn to Henderson, the occasion being the annual picnic of the lodge. Next week the homeward rush will set in. The south-bound trains on Tuesday are fully booked up already, and it is thought that extra accommodation will be required to carry the passengers. Long queues at the booking boxes are the order of the day, and all next week the southbound trains will be heavily taxed.
