CUSTOMS REVENUE

TWO MILLIONS COLLECTED IN AUCKLAND DECREASE FOR THE YEAR Customs revenue collected at the port of Auckland for December totalled £182,000. Excise duty on beer resulted in the Government collecting £12,159 over the same period. It would appear that 1926’s total of £2,267,795 (up till November) is hardly likely to be eclipsed this year. The total for 1927 was £2,339,314. December figures for 1926, however, have yet to be added. Returns for November were £ 179,460, compared with £193,300 in November of last year—a drop of £13,540. That, however, is not neaiTy so serious a falling off as was recorded in October, when collections were £77,301 behind. Customs revenue figures for the first eleven months of 1927, compared with those for the corresponding period of 1926, are:—

Beer duty collected during November amounted to £12,120. compared with £12,877 for the corresponding month of last year.
