CHRISTMAS MARRIAGES POPULAR Tlie vual statistic returns for Ihe year ending to-day show that there has been a general decrease in the births, deaths and marriages in Auckland as compared with the returns furnished for 1926. Births totalled 3,480 as compared with 3,580 last year, deaths reached 1,828, whereas in 1926 they aggregated 1,842, and marriages numbered 2,076 as against 2.192 for the previous 12 months. Of the marriages 494 were performed by the Registrar. Last year the Registrar dealt with 535. January, March and November recorded the most deaths, 330, 33t and 331 respectively being registered during those periods. The end of the year remains popular for marriages, and the month just closing registered 232. This still falls short of last December's 249. November had 191 marriages, and March was next with 185, and January with 172.
More babies were born into Auckland in March than in any other month, when 333 births were registered. September brought along 329 and January 326.
RECORD BIRTHS AT PALMERSTON NORTH
Press Association. PALMERSTON N., To-day. Births registered at Palmerston North during the past year constitute a record, totalling 601, compared with 593 last year, the previous best. A slight increase is shown in deaths, but the number is no more than the average. Marriages have shown a decrease compared with last year, when the figures constituted a record. WELLINGTON FIGURES Press Association. Vital statistics in the Wellington district this year, as compared with last year's figures (in parenthesis) are:—Births, 2,210 (2,139); deaths, 1,091 (1,110); marriage notices, 1,415 (1,413); marriages by registrar, 357 (380).
