DAIRY PRODUCTION INCREASE FOR PROVINCE In spite of the dry spell that has been experienced during the past few weeks, the production of dairy produce in the Auckland province for the first few months of the 1927-2 8 season is reported to be good, and figures show it ahead of last year’s corresponding period. The Auckland Farmers’ Freezing Co. states that 1,059,891 boxes of butter and 72,016 crates of cheese have been received into store. Converted to terms of butter-fat the figures show the province’s dairy production for the season to date to be 54.135,5371 b, an increase of 6,514,8431 b, or more than 13 per cent., over last year’s figures. During the fortnight ended on December 28 the butter and cheese received into store in Auckland represented 6,745,1981 b of butter-fat, an increase of 321,8991 b, or 5 per cent, over the corresponding fortnight last vear. Regular shipments have been ‘made of both butter and cheese, and the no\v awaiting clearance amount to 1-7,639 boxes of butter and 17 223 crates of cheese. The Taranaki Oil Fields report: Waiapu No. 2 well is to a depth of 2,855 ft in brown shale 83in in diameter and the casing to a depth of 2,840 ft. Gisborne No. 1 well is to a depth of 2.045 ft in soft sandstone 8 Jin in diameter and the casing to a depth of 2,023 ft.
