By Cable. — Press Association. — Copyright. Received 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Friday. , »PHE dive of a trapeze artist into the stalls of a theatre at V I Hillingborough thrilled the audience, though the watchers were unaware that really it was a dive to death.
Greenhalge, dressed as an ape, had heen performing the feat for 30 years. He jumped before his ankle was properly secured on the trapee, and crashed headlong into a woman's lap. gbe was removed to the hospital with a broken leg. The apeman died after a few minutes; but the band struck up a gay
march, so that the audience did not realise the tragedy. Greenhalge’s wife, who witnessed the accident from behind the scenes, fainted. Blondin once had a similar accident. He fell into a woman’s lap in the stalls, and broke her legs, but was himself unhurt.—A. and N.Z.
