“AMERICAN BEAUTY”

BILLIE DOVE’S LATEST Beautiful Billie Dove gets her first chance to display her talents as a comedienne in First National’s "American Beauty,” her latest starring production. Although the story has many serious moments and touches of pathos, it is handled mainly in a vein °f whimsical comedy, and provides Miss Dove with an opportunity to depart from the more strictly conventional dramatic roles. Bloyd Hughes will be seen as leading man with the charming star in this humorous and perhaps wistful story of a lovely young girl trying desperately to camouflage her poverty. A deeidedlv human story presenting a real insight into the life of the American girl of average circumstances, who, however, makes good. Incidentally Miss Dove wears some amazingly gorgeous gowns particularly that one around which the plot is woven. A strong supporting cast includes Tola d'Avril, A 1 St. i John, Loretta Young and many others, I who all contribute their share to the gaiety of this entertaining production. Lavishly mounted, finely interpreted this can only be regarded as Billie’s best. When Joan Crawford finishes her work opposite William Haines in "West Point.” she will start immediately with an entirely different type of role—that of the heroine of Colonel Tim McCoy’s next picture, "The Texas Ranger ” Miss Crawford will have the role of a ‘cowgirl” of the 70’s.
