Queenslander Wins Decathlon Event
ATHLETIC ALL-ROUNDER TURNS TABLES ON SUTHERLAND (Special to THE SUN.) WELLINGTON. To-day. Establishing a new Australasian record for the aggregate points, E. Keskinen (Queensland) beat E. G. Sutherland (New Zealand) to-day in the third Australasian Decathlon Championship. Although only two were left in the contest at the finish, the last event" were interesting, because Keskinen was fully extended to overt? ke Sutherland s points lead. The Queenslander won four out of five events to-day and of the total of ten even’s, he won six. The total aggregates for both dus were: Keskinen, 6.433.7 S points, Sutherland 5,942.60 points. A STIFF TEST The weather was terrible. steady driving rain making th-? ground greasy and treacherous for tie field events, and a strong gusty wind added to the competitors’ discomfort. Under those circumstances, some sterling performances were recorded. W. Hunt (New South Wales) was a non-starter, leaving only Sutherland (New Zealand*. Keskinen (Queensland) and Walker (New South Wales) in, with Walker hopelessly outclassed. W -k yr x- rr -4c -
