LINDBERGH OFF AGAIN
TRIP TO GUATEMALA VIEWS ON OCEAN FLIGHTS By Cable.—Press Association. — Copyright. Reed. 9.5 a.m. MEXICO CITY, Wed. Colonel Charles. Lindbergh hopped off on Wednesday morning for Guatemala City. A LATER message from Washington J --*- said the State Department had been informed that the airman arrived at Guatemala City at 2 o'clock. “I have no intention of making a flight across the Pacific,” said Colonel Charles Lindbergh, in the course of an interview. He added that all his
experience was a kgalnst taking unnecessary chances _ over large bodies E of water. : "Perhaps I am - like the man who ‘ makes a tremen- \ dous plunge in s stock gambling, f and then for ever = after preaches against playing ® the market,” said
the airman. He also said he had no intention of accompanying Commander Byrd on his South Polar flight. “I think a non-stop Pacific flight could be made,” he continued, “but it is a big gamble. Modern equipment is still too insecure, and a forced landing over water is usually fatal. No flying boat has yet been perfected with a sufficient radius for such a flight. I know I committed one such gamble, but what Is the value of taking chances with men’s lives by trying to cross more oceans’.’ They are merely stunts now.”—A. and N.Z.-Sun.
