AROUND BOTH ISLANDS
WARSHIPS' CRUISE NEW YEAR PROGRAMME (Special to THE SUN.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. For the first few months of 1928 H.M. Ships Dunedin and Diomede will cruise independently, their respective itineraries embracing a complete circuit of both Islands. Details of the programme for the two warships were announced to-day by the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. J. Rolleston. Both cruisers will sail from Auckland for the Hauraki Gulf on January 16, where the Dunedin will remain until January 27, when she will leave for Whangaroa, remaining there until February 6. The ship will return to Auckland the same night and 10 days later will leave for New Plymouth, where she is due on February IS. On February 22 the Dunedin will leave for Westport, where she will arrive on February 24. The Dunedin will circle the South Island, calling at several ports, and will reach Wellington on March 30. The Dunedin is due back at Auckland on April 17. The Diomede will remain in the Gulf from January 16 until January 27, when she will return to Auckland, leaving again on January 30 for Russell. On February 8 she will return to Auckland, clearing the Waitemata again on the evening of February 9 for Gisborne, where she will remain until February 15. A stay of five days will then be made at Napier, after which the vessel will call at Wanganui, pro- ' eeeding thence to Greymouth, where \ she is due on February 24. In company with the Dunedin she will leave Greymouth for the Sounds on February 27. The Diomede will visit South Island ports until April AO, when she is due at Wellington.
