MAY BE NEW ZEALAND’S FIRST OLYMPIC CHAMPION.—S. A. Lay (Taranaki) threw the javelin 218 ft 2½in at the A. and N.Z. Championships at Wellington, his throw being within 6in of the world’s record. It cannot be allowed as a record, however, owing to the competitors being assisted by the wind.
